"Sweet Corn, Alabama...I mean Taylor"

So another Sweet Corn Festival has come and gone through our sweet little hometown of Taylor, AZ. If you're wondering, this is a picture of the current standing "Sweet Corn Queen." I'm not positive who she is, but I THINK it's none other than Ms. Irwin-the same lady who has been the Sweet Corn Queen for like the last couple decades. Is she self-appointed? Hmmm.... not sure, but maybe so 'cause who would really want to actually WEAR that oh not-so-glorious corn costume?!! Well, she looks happy anyway, so let her.....
These are some pictures of the crazy little parade and the happy parade
go-ers.I'm not so sure what this van full of characters was promoting in the parade, but their dog was so cool that I had to snap a picture!
Check out Quint trying to imitate the boys from the 80's with his fake "mullet." Boy am I HaPpY that this hairstyle died!

None of the parade entries were nearly as cool as Kelly was in her "General Lee orange" Dodge Challenger. This car is sweeter than the corn!

After the parade was over we headed over to the Taylor Rodeo Park to check out all the vendors and get some good grub! There was so much BBQin' going on it was sinful! Everywhere you turned you were greeted by people selling BBQ meat, kettle corn, snow cones, chicken, cotton candy, and of course corn, corn, corn. You could get boiled corn, roasted corn, fresh corn, grilled corn. I felt like I was in the middle of the movie, "Forrest Gump" where Bubba Gump was telling Captain Dan about all the kinds of shrimp they had...popcorn shrimp, coconut shrimp, bbq shrimp..... I didn't know you could cook corn SO many ways!
These crazy boys, Payte, Quint and Brig thought it was tons of fun to stick themselves to the 'Wall of Velcro' and go tumbling down the bumper slide. They had lots of fun running around playing on these contraptions.

We also got to watch the kids take part in the horseless rodeo, watched Ray in the ranch horse competition (which he did awesome in)and ended Saturday night watching the shenanigans of the cowboys in the ranch rodeo. It was good entertainment and made for a great holiday weekend. It's nice to live in a little town where we can still celebrate the simple stuff like the harvest of sweet corn!! What a sweet tradition!

  2. Seeing your pics. made me wish I would have got my butt out of bed on Saturday instead of taking advantage of the boys being gone and sleeping in with Tate. I agree about the small town traditions. . .there's nothing like it. I always love seeing pics of your sis on your blog as well. She's pretty as ever. Are you still working on her to get her blog going? Tell her I'll do it for her just so I can keep tabs on her! Umm. . .in a good way.

  3. I was blog surfing and came across your blog. Your boys are so cute. It looks like you had a blast at the Sweet Corn Festival. I wish we could have gone but my husband decided he wanted to go hunting instead. Oh well, maybe next year.

  6. Good Times. Phyllis Erwin (The Corny Queen) is pretty much self appointed. Kind of. She started out like you said, years ago dressing up and it sort of evolved into a crowd demand. She actually comes back every year to make her appearence. Talked to Pat this morning, I'm sickened. She was at the top of her game and I'm sad for her. She's a trooper though and all will be well. How's Ashley working out? I think drill will be great for her.
