Durango: The Rodeo

While we were in Durango, the annual Fiesta Days celebration was going on. Of course, this celebration includes several rodeos among the many other activities the celebration offers. We hit the rodeo on Friday night. It wasn't nearly as good as our 4th of July and Pioneer Days rodeos here at home, but we enjoyed it anyway and Quint rode a sheep in the mutton bustin' competition. He was doing great and probably would have made the whistle had his ewe not fallen down with him hanging on 'til they hit the dirt! He had fun anyway and they gave him a cool Fiesta Days ballcap.

Jana and Vern, AKA Gandma and Poppa, also enjoying the rodeo.

The boys just hangin' at the rodeo.

The rodeo had some neat entertainment, like this guy doing his rope tricks. He also had a gorgeous horse who would jump up onto a flat bed truck then walk up a ramp onto the top of their trailer; it was incredible!

There was also a drill team at the rodeo, The Old Fort Days Dandies. Ironically, one of the girls and her family was staying at the same RV park as we were and we met her in the laundry room! Her name was Lindsay and she was super cute and fun to talk with. She and her fam came all the way from Oklahoma for her to perform with the Dandies for the rodeos that week! The drill team was different from ours in that they did a square dance type routine. They had a guy calling out maneuvers over the mic. and the girls would perform whatever one he called out along with another partner-both horseback. It was really different; unique. We enjoyed watching.

This is Miss Lindsay - isn't she a cutie?!

These are a few of the dandies; they were all such cute girls. The team ages are 11 to 20. They would be very surprised to know that our team has from 20 to 60+ and we're proud of it!!

Of course, my favorite thing at the rodeo was this guy.........he makes me so happy - I love doing everything with him, especially vacationing. :)

P.S. It's gonna take me a while to post all my pictures from the trip, so I decided to just do it one post at a time and I'm over and out for tonight - tomorrow is Monday (blah) and I gotta get to bed 'cause it's coming fast!

  1. Sounds like you had a GREAT time! I'm so glad you got to go spend time there. It is so beautiful. When we went, we stopped on the side of the road to watch the elk, but didn't go to the store they had. I'm so glad you did, it sounds neat. That rodeo sounds great too. What a great week! Can't wait to see more.
